Zendaya, Whoopi Goldberg and Michaela Coel Honored at Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood Awards Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood Awards was taped on April 3rd but aired on Essence.com on April 22nd. The annual event honored Black Hollywood notables, Zendaya, Whoopi Goldberg, Cynthia Erivo, Michaela Coel, and Andra Day.  The event was hosted by Laverne Cox and one of the most memorable speeches came from I May Destroy You star, Michaela Coel.  Coel, who is from the United Kingdom, detailed her first 12 days in America and the disastrous meetings she had when pitching “Chewing Gum,” which later became her hit HBO show.  Day and Goldberg spoke on how Essence played a role in their careers and the lives of Black women everywhere.  Which Black actress inspires you the most?
