Will Smith Turned Down Two ‘Independence Day’ Sequels

Despite several requests to return as Captain Steve Hiller in an Independence Day sequel, Will Smith has persisted in rejecting any prospective plot ideas.

According to writer and producer Dean Devlin in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, there were originally going to be two sequels to the 1996 movie, titled ID Forever Part I and ID Forever Part II.

Devlin said about the sequel,

He’d gotten rich, he’d gotten famous, and he had to get the eye of the tiger back, you know?

He continued,

He was generally worried about doing sequels. I don’t know what was going on with him, but ultimately he wouldn’t do it. It was a huge disappointment.

Why are you glad that Will Smith decided not to do any sequels to Independence Day?
