The Weeknd ‘Forgot How to Sing’ and Lost His Voice Because of Acting in ‘The Idol’: ‘It Was Terrifying’

The artist, formally known as “The Weeknd,” revealed that he temporarily forgot how to sing. The moment was

terrifying,

said the artist, now going by his real name, Abel Tesfaye.

Abel stars as “Tedros,” a cult leader in the new HBO series, “The Idol,” he says that him getting so deep into character and then transitioning back to “The Weeknd” when he wasn’t on set was difficult and emotional.

Tesfaye had to end a show in Los Angeles in September because he couldn’t speak.

I don’t know what just happened… but I just lost my voice,

the singer told the crowd from the stage.

This is killing me, I don’t want to stop the show, but I can’t give you the concert I want to give you right now.

He did reschedule the show, but in a recent interview with W Magazine, the artist says it was his “Idol” character that may have caused the problem,

I had to take off the Weeknd outfit, put on Tedros’s wig, shoot with Jocelyn, then go back to being The Weeknd,” the singer said. “It was tough to go from one head to another. Then, after the concert, I lost my voice. No voice came out at all. That’s never happened before.
