Spelling Bee Champion Already Being Offered College Scholarships Colleges are lining up to offer full scholarships to 14-year-old Scripps National Spelling Bee champion Zaila Avant-Garde. Zaila has already been offered a full ride from schools like LSU and Southern University in her home state of Louisiana. Southern University even offered to hold a “Zaila Day” in her honor. Zaila won the Bee last week, becoming just the second black winner in the competition’s history. Did you ever compete in a spelling bee in school?  How did you do?
