R. Kelly Admitted To Marrying Aaliyah So She Could Get An Abortion, ‘Jane Doe’ Testifies A “Jane Doe” revealed the reason why R. Kelly married Aaliyah in 1994 when she was just 15-years-old. The second “Jane Doe” of the trial against R. Kelly took the stand on Monday to give testimony in Kelly’s case where he’s accused of racketeering and four counts of violating the Mann Act. The 23-year-old “Jane Doe” says the singer married Aaliyah so she could have an abortion. The woman testified that Kelly gathered his girlfriends together for a Q&A session and one woman asked why he married the “Try Again” singer. Doe says Kelly told the girls he married Aaliyah because only parents and spouses could give permission for a minor to have an abortion. He also told them he gave her money and a “bat phone” for the singer to reach Kelly in an emergency. Doe will continue her testimony on Tuesday (August 24th) at the Brooklyn Federal Courthouse in New York City.
