Congratulations to Ben Sauls from Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City, the Penn Station Athlete of the Month for December, 2019!
Ben is an avid football and soccer player and also enjoys golf and fishing. Ben’s parents, Christine and Mark, along with his sister Amanda are also proud to congratulate Ben on his accomplishments. Ben has a 3.6 GPA.
Ben received his varsity letter his freshman year, breaking the school record for the longest field goal. He also says that one of his greatest achievements so far has been helping his soccer team win State Championship. After high school, Ben plans to kick for the Boston College football team and receive an outstanding education.
According to Ben, “Participating in high school athletics has been a benefit to me helping me manage my time for sports, homework and social life. It has helped me with my grades. My mother put me in soccer at a very young age. For football, in 8th grade, my science teach, Mr. Stanberry, suggested that I be the kicker for the high school team.”
Athletic Director Kregg Creamer said, “Ben possesses the most powerful leg I have ever seen in a high school athlete. When he kicks a ball, football or soccer, there is just a different sound that is made. He has proven to be a real asset for our football team, both as a punter and place kicker. Ben is also one of the leading scorers on our State Championship soccer team. We are so excited to follow Ben as he continues his kicking career at the collegiate level.”
Head Football Coach Matt Burgbacher said, “Ben is an outstanding athlete with a powerful left foot! By far, he is the most complete special team’s player I’ve had the privilege to coach. Whether it was punting or kicking, we knew it was going to go far. One reason for Ben’s success is his dedication and hard work he has put in to make himself one of the best in the nation. He is committed to excellence and expects nothing less of himself at all times. We are excited to follow his career at Boston College and beyond!”
Principal Chris Zink added, “Ben is a true student athlete who excels both in the classroom and on the field. As a principal, you want great students and athletes, but what you really want are great people, and Ben fits that mold. Ben exemplifies the value of hard work and dedication and is a standout performer both on our football team and State Championship soccer team. We are all looking forward to seeing what he’s able to accomplish at the next level!”
Ben notes that his favorite book is “1984” by George Orwell. His sports hero is Baker Mayfield. He also enjoys the Philly Cheesesteak at the Penn Station in Troy!
Congratulations, Ben from all of us!
