LeBron James Pledges Support Brittney Griner NBA star LeBron James has become the latest athlete to voice his support for Brittney Griner, urging other sports professionals to band together and “do whatever we possibly can” to free the Phoenix Mercury player from a Russian jail. “We need to come together and help do whatever we possibly can to bring BG home quickly and safely,” James tweeted. “Our voice as athletes is stronger together.” The Phoenix Mercury player has been detained in Russia since early February, when she was arrested for carrying THC vape cartridges through a Moscow airport. Are Russian authorities only holding Griner to get back at the U.S. for helping Ukraine?
