John Legend Wants To Transform The Criminal Justice System, One DA At A Time John Legend is an EGOT winner but also a criminal justice reform, advocate. Legend recently spoke with NPR about forthcoming state elections that are vital for overcoming an “outdated system.” Legend recently highlighted some progressive district attorneys on Twitter who will be on ballots and support discontinuing cash bail, the death penalty, and prosecutions for low-level felonies. “You have greater community-connected empathy and understanding,” Legend says of women and people of color who are running. Legend says having empathetic people in DA positions helps with community-wide judgments that affect communities of color. While Legend says that America spends a lot of money on enforcement and incarceration, we are not safer. He suggests focusing money on the fundamental causes of problems instead. What are your thoughts on the criminal justice system? Is our system working or does it need to be reexamined?
